Not sohik "Cni" after all...
Not sohik "Cni" after all...
Bollywood has always been capable of producing a wide range of lustrous “item songs”. From “Laila main Laila - Qurbani” (1980) to “Sheila ki Jawani - Tees Marr Khan” (2011), the versatile industry has been vivaciously successful in creating hundreds of item songs with vibrant choreography and catchy tunes year after year. People, however, tend to get uninterested in the same repetitive style. The very natural human nature coerces the masses into becoming critiques. Therefore, before complaining about Bollywood’s latest item song, I will admit to being a self proclaimed critique with ample of time that I can afford to waste on a sophisticated (LOL as if) yet critical analysis of Katrina Kaif’s new item number.
Here’s the song and video I’m going to be slaughtering today:
Not only does this song hold a strong resemblance with the entire “Sheila ki Jawani” background setup, but also the expressions and dance moves seem old and somewhat monotonous. Even the costumes seem like a rip off of something in between “Munni badnaam hui” and “Sheila ki Jawani”.
Katrina Kaif has yet again failed to deliver invigorating expressions that the song demands. I mean, I can totally picture Sri Devi or Madhuri Dixit performing the same steps with expressions a million times better than Ms-Pretty-Face-Hot-Body-But-No-Expressions-LOL. Worse is how she thinks she has finally mastered the art of displaying sentiments on her face.
No doubt she’s gorgeous, but Katrina lacks something. There’s zeal, there’s energy, there’s noise… she just lacks substance. I love those pelvic thrusts, that pretty doll-like face, that body and those legs, oh hawtt dayyumm - but seriously, nothing beyond that makes me want to admire you as a heroine.
Using whorish names in item songs does not guarantee a hit. Lyrics are not only vulgar but bordering on the line of being completely nonsensical. Sorry, but “jaan le who jalva hai, dekhnay main halwa hai” seems wholly illogical. Like err wtf… halva…? HOW is that a comparison? I know it’s retarded of me to try and find logic in Bollywood… but still… this has to be the limit...
Finally, this tedium may have developed as a result of my recent encounter with item songs along the same line in the past 3 – 4 months. I mean, the marathon began with “Munni Badnaam hui”, immediately followed by “Sheila ki Jawani”, soon succeeded by “Laila – Remix” and eventually the ever-desperate Malika Sherawat’s “Razia Ghundo main phans gaeey” and “Jalebi Bai”. This dose was a bit to much, you have to agree and hence, “Chikni Chameli” being typically 2011 only disappoints.
But hats off to Sanjay Dutt’s make-up artist, just one question… were you inspired by Shrek?
